COVINGTON — A Sidney man was transported aboard CareFlight following a single-vehicle crash on state Route 48 at Covington-Bradford Road on Friday evening.
Deputies from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, along with Covington Fire Department and Rescue Squad, responded to the intersection around 9 p.m. on the report of a vehicle down an embankment and into a stand of trees.
First units on the scene requested that CareFlight respond and a landing zone was established at the south edge of Covington.
The victim, Brian Korte, 30, of Sidney, was transported by Covington medic to the landing zone where the medical helicopter met them, in spite of a steady rain and fog.
Lt. Tom Wheeler of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Korte was eastbound on Covington-Bradford Road when he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed state Route 48, went down an embankment and into a stand of trees.
Korte was not wearing a seat belt and his head impacted the windshield.
Wheeler said deputies requested a blood sample be drawn as they believe that the crash was alcohol-related and that Korte had not yet regained consciousness and was listed in critical condition.
