SIDNEY — The city of Sidney First Responders will be conducting an Active School Shooting drill the Sidney Christian Academy on Friday, June 29. The drill will involve members of the Sidney Police Department and Sidney Fire/Rescue department responding to an event at Sidney Christian Academy and taking the appropriate action.

On scene during the event will be the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Piqua Police/Fire Department, Troy Fire Department, Russ Hunlock (retired Wapakoneta Police chief), Shelby County EMA and Sidney Christian Personnel. They will help serve as evaluators and safety officers. There will also be volunteers playing the roles of students during the event.

“This is a drill with the first responders and the school officials working together to improve responses if the need ever arises. Preparation, communication and cooperation will be critical if an actual situation ever arises,” said Sidney Police Chief Will Balling.

The event will take place from 8 to noon with the actual drill taking place from 9 to 11 a.m.

“It is our intent to have several more of these training sessions throughout the year,” said Balling.
