NEW BREMEN — The 97th Annual New Bremen Firemen’s Picnic, to be held Saturday, July 28, at the Crown Pavilion in New Bremen, has a new twist to their unique firemen’s contest.
For the first time, teams of adults will be able to compete in Waterball competitions where fire hoses are used to push a pony keg down a suspended rope. A complete listing of activities can be seen at http://www.newbremen.com/events/2018-firemens-picnic.
Waterball competition starts at 1 p.m. for kids, with a 4 p.m. start time for adults. No pre-registration is needed. Thereafter, firefighter teams from the area will compete at the professional level.
Other activities are planned throughout the day. Beer and food stands open at noon and games of chance at 3 p.m. At 1:30 there will be a Lift-A-Thon by high school teams. Dinner is available starting at 4:30 p. At 5:30 there will be kids games, jumpies, and pony rides. An auction of wood carvings starts at 8 p.m. and a raffle drawing happens at 11 pm.
Music by big band group AC Swing starts at 6:30 p.m. and from 8:30 p.m. to 12 midnight by Roger DeMange and Rick Heyne.
On Friday, July 27, the annual Firemen’s Memorial 5K run/walk will begin at 8 p.m.
Auglaize County’s longest running picnic, this event has offered entertainment, good food, time with friends since 1921. All profits benefit the fire department’s scholarships and other activities.
