SIDNEY — On the one-year anniversary of the Greenview United Church of Christ arson fire, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the State Fire Marshall’s Office have offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the individual(s) responsible for the fire.

A press release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office states they received a report on Aug. 21, 2017 around 5:17 p.m. that the church, located at 3041 Leather Creek Road, was on fire.

“Port Jefferson Fire Department responded to the scene and the fire was extinguished. Detectives from the Shelby County Sheriff Office Office responded to the scene and upon inspection, it was apparent that the cause of the fire was purposely set,” the release said.

“Shelby County Sheriff’s Detectives, along with inspectors from the State Fire Marshall’s Office, collected evidence at the scene and the evidence was sent to the State Fire Marshall’s lab. Interviews were conducted with residents and a few leads were followed up on. Conventional and unconventional methods were used to establish leads in the case,” the press release said. “The damage to the church was extensive, and during the rebuilding phase services continued at the church’s rec center. Since the fire, the church has been rebuilt and services have resumed.”
