Youth issue food drive challenge

SIDNEY — Many of the youth involved in the gymnastics, cheer and acrobatics teams and programs at the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA have been collecting nonperishable items for the food pantry at Agape Distribution in Sidney.

“The four core values at the Y are caring, honesty, respect and responsibility,” said Shirley Sprague, senior program director. “We try to instill these values in all the youth that participate in our programs. Doing for others in our community is a great way for them to learn that.”

As of Dec. 1, more than 480 nonperishable items had been collected by the kids. They were surprised to see that there were hardly any donations in the lobby, so they issued a challenge to everyone that goes to the Y, whether a member or not. They want to see if their donation can be matched before Christmas.

Donations can be dropped off at the Y.
