Firefighters respond to house fire

SIDNEY — At 7:36 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2018, firefighters were dispatched to the 500 Block of Oak Avenue for a structure fire, with possible victim trapped.

On arrival, firefighters found a two-story duplex home, with heavy fire showing from the front porch and one side of the duplex. The address of the incident was 514 and 516 Oak Ave.

Firefighters were able to extinguish a large portion of the fire from the exterior of the home using a master stream. Firefighters then entered the structure and completed a coordinated search and fire attack to complete extinguishment.

One occupant was out of the residence upon arrival. The second occupant was not home at the time of the fire and was later located.

The total loss to the property is estimated at $60,000 and to contents $15,000.

A Box Alarm was dispatched to recall all off duty Sidney firefighters as well as Anna Fire Department, Lockington Fire Department and Perry Port Salem Rescue Squad. Perry Port Salem handled one EMS call during the fire.

Vectren was called to the scene to secure the gas and DP&L to secure the power.

The Northern Miami Valley Chapter of the Red Cross responded to scene and is providing assistance to the occupants.

The fire is undetermined at this time and is under investigation by the Sidney Fire Department Investigation Team.
