WAPAKONETA — A 34-year-old woman charged with murder after police officials said she intentionally ran over a man may try to use an insanity defense.

Jade Miller, of 314 Jackson St., pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to murder and aggravated vehicular homicide during her arraignment Monday. Her attorney, Bob Grzybowski, asked Judge Frederick Pepple to order a psychological evaluation, which the judge did.

The case will remain on hold until after the evaluation is complete and a report issued. The evaluation is scheduled for Jan. 21. Grzybowski also entered a plea of not guilty to the charges. Miller faces up to life in prison.

Miller is charged in the Sept. 1 incident that killed Michael R. Angel, 32, of Lima. He was hit by a car at the intersection of North and Brighthorn streets. He died two days later, police officials reported.

Witnesses told investigators a vehicle stopped on North Street, just east of Brighthorn Street. A woman driving the car and Angel had an argument after Angel left the car. Moments later the woman in the car ran into Angel, who was on foot, police officials said.

Miller spoke little during the hearing and often looked down at the desk in front of her. She answered several questions from the judge but mainly let her attorney talk for her.

Grzybowski said he wants doctors to determine whether Miller is sane today and at the time of the Angel’s death.
