DAYTON — Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 6-02 will offer a safe boating class, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Eagle Creek Marine, 5700 Poe Ave., Dayton.

The fee, which includes a textbook, is $20. Advance registration is required at 937-890-5964.

The class is open to anyone 12 and older. People who are at least 12 can operate a boat in Ohio waters; however, children are required to have an adult onboard. To operate a personal watercraft, like a Jet Ski, people must be at least 16.

Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1982, is required to complete a safe boating class before operating a boat that has a motor of 10 horsepower or more.

The Dayton course will be conducted in a classroom, not on the water.
