Museum plans speakeasy dinner

VERSAILLES — The Versailles Area Museum has announced that Jan. 30 is the deadline to purchase tickets to its Historic Dinner, scheduled for Feb. 6 at the Versailles Knights of Columbus Hall.

Proceeds will benefit the museum.

This year’s theme is a speakeasy in rural Darke County in 1928. The music was jazz and the beverage of choice was illegal. Those hidden spots were welcoming to all the “regulars” who knew the password to get through the door. No one knew if the county sheriff might drop in and arrest any one of the customers who had gathered there.

Tickets to the dinner cost $45 for museum members, $50 for nonmembers, and are available at 937-526-4222. They include appetizers, dinner and dessert. There will be a cash bar.

Participants are encouraged to dress in the style of the 1920s, but costumes are not required.
