SIDNEY – The Sidney Civic Band will perform this week during during Sidney’s Fourth of July celebration, Saturday, on the tennis courts at Sidney High School.

The patriotic concert will begin at 8 p.m. No chairs will be provided for the audience, so concert-goers should take lawn chairs. The final portion of the concert will take place during the fireworks display.

“We wanted to make this concert a compilation several different things,” said director Phil Chilcote. “We’ll begin the concert in a big way. The band will play the overture ‘Die Meistersingher’ by Wagner, and two arias featuring vocalists Gregory Ashe and Carol Palmer. Then we will lighten things up playing ‘Syncopated Clock’ and three pieces honoring OSU football.” “You Raise Me Up” will be sung by Palmer and “Yakety Sax” will feature Tom Benner.

Following intermission, Ashe will perform “Bring Him Home” and sing “The Prayer” as a duet with Palmer.

“The band will also play ‘Americans We,’ ‘Armed Forces Salute’ and a wonderful arrangement of ‘America the Beautiful’ in honor of the holiday,” said Chilcote.

After a short break, the band will perform music that coordinates with the city’s fireworks display beginning at about 10 p.m.

Refreshments will be available for purchase from Connection Point Church of God Relay for Life team, beginning 30 minutes prior to the concert.

In the event of rain, the band will perform their concert at the same time in the Connection Point Church of God, 1510 Campbell Road. A Spot pie and Bob Evan’s baked treats will be given to lucky fans.
