PIQUA — Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the Piqua Police Department responded to a traffic incident in which a car allegedly hit a house and then left the scene Friday at 2:20 a.m. DeGraff resident Kelsey L. Harshbarger, 28, was later picked up at a traffic stop in connection with this incident.

Deputies responded to the 10000 block of North County Road 25A in reference to the accident. According to Miami County Sheriff’s Office reports, the vehicle drove off the left side of the road, struck a tree, and spun into the front side of the residence. The vehicle sustained heavy damage to its rear, but kept going.

The vehicle that had left the scene was a 1999 Acura and was located by Piqua Police driving on Looney Road in the area of North County Road 25A. A Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the traffic stop as well.

Harshbarger was the alleged driver of that vehicle, according to Sheriff’s Office reports. Harshbarger refused to take a sobriety test or a breath test, but the vehicle reportedly had multiple empty Busch Lite cans inside of it and also smelled of alcohol. A deputy also noted that Harshbarger had slurred speech.

Harshbarger was charged with OVI, first-degree misdemeanor leaving the scene, minor misdemeanor failure to control, and minor misdemeanor open container in connection with this incident. She was taken into custody before being released to a licensed driver.

Harshbarger is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
