SHELBY COUNTY – Seniors at Fairlawn, Houston and Minster high schools may apply for scholarships from the Kauffman Family Scholarship Fund.

The deadline was extended to May 30 because of a lack of eligible applicants. The online application is found at www.commfoun.com, the Community Foundation of Shelby County website.

The $1,000 scholarships are available to seniors at the named schools who have a grade point average between 3.0 and 3.7 and pursuing a vocational certificate, associates degree or bachelors degree in the fall. Selection will be based upon academics, need, recommendations and school and community service.

The Kauffman Scholarship Fund also is awarding scholarships to seniors at Anna and Sidney high schools. The application for those two schools is closed, as there were eligible applicants completing the form by the original deadline.

Applicants will need to provide their grade transcript, FAFSA information and community and school service lists. They also will need to gather letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, employers or advisers who can speak of their character and suitability for their intended major. Interested applicants are encouraged to start the application as soon as possible.
