HOUSTON — The Houston Community Association met Feb. 3, to choose three new trustees.

At the meeting, Brenda Langston and Charlotte Meyer were nominated. They are still in need of another. Interested parties are asked to attend the next meeting on Wednesday, March 2, at 7 p.m.

Also at the meeting, members were informed of the improvements made in the last year. The white lifetime tables and chairs were recently purchased. New outside lighting was installed by DP&L with a two year contract. These three lights light up the parking lot too. New windows and trim were also installed. The money for these items were raised by holding several fundraiser meals throughout the year.

The fundraisers for 2016 are the upcoming Homemade Beef or Chicken and Noodle Dinner to be held Sunday, March 13 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Houston Classic Festival June 24 and 25, the Shelby County Fair the week of July 24, Fall Festival at Lake Ft. Loramie in September, and the Turkey/Ham Dinner held in November.

The Friday night Pizza nights are held the first Friday of October, November, December, January, February, and March. The money from the pizza nights is used to provide graduating seniors of Hardin-Houston High School with college scholarships. If anyone in the community would like to volunteer to help at these fundraisers just let a trustee know. Also high school students of Houston High can volunteer to work at the fundraisers and earn volunteer points towards their college scholarship applications.

Those in attendance were informed that they can use the website, at www.houstonca.org, to find out what events are coming up, if the hall is open for a rental, and how to apply for their scholarship.

After the general meeting, an organizational meeting was held. Patty Cotterman was selected as the vice president for 2016 and president for 2017.
