Sidney — The internationally touring Journey tribute group, Absolute Journey Tribute, is slated to headline the 2019 day-long Backstage Block Party (BSBP) concert on Saturday, June 15.

The outdoor event will begin at noon featuring local bands all day, starting with Reflektion, followed by Kevin and the Others, City of Bright, Turnaround and finally MonkeyWrench as opening acts, according to a Raise the Roof for the Arts press release.

“We’ve moved to a day-long festival model this year,” said Raise the Roof Executive Director Ian Hinz in the release. “We listened to community feedback and decided that moving to a one day event was the best way to include more family friendly activities.”

This year’s BSBP will include a Kids Arts Zone from noon to 5 p.m. Activities will include a community mural, face painting, mask making, sand art and button making. At 5 p.m., the Kids Zone will transform into the Community Impact Zone, giving local non-profit organizations a space to participate in the festivities and share their stories with the community.

Block Party headliner Absolute Journey Tribute, a well-travelled Journey tribute band, will take the stage at 8:45 p.m. The band recreates not just a show, but a full-fledged Journey concert, where accurately executed melodies pair up with exciting audience interaction, the release said. Get ready for a rocking 80s style evening of Journey’s greatest hits: “Don’t Stop Believin,’” “Faithfully,” “Wheel in the Sky,” “Open Arms,” “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin,’” and all the best of Journey is coming to the BSBP.

At 6:30 p.m., MonkeyWrench makes a triumphant return to the Block Party stage covering upbeat, radio-friendly rock from the 70s to today, with an emphasis on 90s Rock. MonkeyWrench hails from the Sidney area, and is excited to put on a great performance to support Raise the Roof for the Arts and the Historic Sidney Theatre.

Turnaround (5:15 p.m.) come to the BSBP from a studio built in the midst of the Indiana countryside. Brock Barcus and Colton Smith have combined singing, keyboard playing, rapping, programming, and drums to create a unique sound. In 2017, the group was chosen by judges as a finalist for the Christian Festival Association’s National Talent Search.

City of Bright (4 p.m.) consists of two sisters and a brother. This sibling pop group has a passion and a heart for music with a purpose. They are pursuing a career in music and ministry and desire to touch the lives of people with God’s love. City of Bright provides a fun and energetic show, with a synth pop sound and high energy drums. They interact with the crowd, getting them involved with songs you can sing along with.

Kevin and the Others (2 p.m.) makes their return to the BSBP stage bringing their high energy entertainment cover band feel straight out of Midwest Ohio. KATO covers hit songs from many genres but adds a unique rock twist and energy to their performance. The band’s set includes covers of hits from AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Smashmouth, Poison, the Beatles, Def Leppard, Blink 182, KISS, Toby Keith, Bruno Mars, Johnny Cash and many, many more. Be prepared to rock out and dance when KATO takes the stage.

ReFlektion (midnight) are a country music duo from Piqua, made up of twin brothers Jared and Justin Younce. These brothers found their love for country music early in life by digging through their parents’ CD stash of 90s country music artists such as Brooks & Dunn, George Strait and Garth Brooks. They have been writing and perusing music since the age of 14.

The block party, which is free to the public, will open its gates in the parking lot behind The Historic Sidney Theatre at noon. Food trucks and alcoholic beverages will be available for sale at the event. You must have proper ID in order to purchase any alcoholic beverage.

This year’s BSBP is made possible by community sponsors, the city of Sidney, Sidney Body Carstar, Lochards Inc. and Edison State Community College.
