DAYTON — The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), will mail energy savings kits directly to customers’ homes, at no cost.

DP&L’s limited offer runs through March, or while supplies last. The free energy savings kit, with an estimated value of $30, includes:

• CFL light bulb, which uses 1/4 the energy of incandescent bulbs; lasts up to 10 times as long; saves up to $30 over lifetime of bulb.

• LED light bulb, which uses 1/10 the energy of incandescent bulbs; lasts up to 25 years; saves up to $130 over lifetime of bulb.

• Efficient showerhead, which saves up to $30 per year with massaging water stream.

• Kitchen faucet aerator, which saves up to $30 a year; reduces waste by directing flow where needed with 360 swivel.

• Bathroom faucet aerator, which reduces water consumption; saves about $7 per year, depending on water usage.
Installing all the energy efficient equipment in the kit could save a household up to $90 per year on energy costs. Savings are highest in homes with electric hot water heaters.

Customers can get kits by registering at dpandl.com/kit with their current DP&L account numbers, listed at the top of DP&L bills.

Each household is limited to one kit. Multi-family homes or landlords may be eligible for more than one kit. Landlords should contact DP&L.

“Water heating is the third highest user of energy in the home, behind heating and cooling costs,” said Director of Operations Tom Tatham. “Our free energy savings kit will help our customers save on both water heating and lighting costs. Switching to CFL or LED bulbs is one of the simplest ways to save energy in your home.”
