DEGRAFF — The elementary spelling bee for Riverside Local Schools was conducted on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Sixteen students participated in grades 3 through 6. The spelling bee went six complete rounds with a winner rising to victory on the final round. The winner of the spelling bee was sixth-grader Grady Jenkins and the runner-up is third-grader Levi McGuire.

The junior high spelling bee was conducted on Monday, Dec. 9. After 26 rounds and 14 contestants, eighth-grader Addison Holycross won the Spelling Bee. The runner-up was eighth-grader Jordan Holycross.

The faculty and staff at Riverside Local are proud of all of the spellers and the great deal of courage it took to stand in front of their school mates under the bright lights and spell words they may not have heard before, let alone spell on a regular basis.

All four students qualified to participate in the Logan County Spelling Bee on Jan. 24 at Ben Logan High School.

Grady Jenkins and Addison Holycross will also take an online test in January to attempt to continue in the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition.
