Anna man dies after chainsaw accident

ANNA — An Anna man died of injuries sustanined in an accident while he was cutting wood.

According to a Shelby County Sheriff’s Office press release, on Feb. 9, 2020, at approximately 5:04 p.m., the office received a report of a 41-year-old man bleeding from the face at his residence at 15071 State Route 119, Anna.

Upon arrival of deputies, Craig Freisthler was found to have suffered a severe laceration to his face and neck area. Upon investigation, it was discovered Freisthler was alone in the woods, north of his residence, cutting wood with a chainsaw. From the investigation, it appears the chain saw jumped and came into contact with his face and neck area, causing the severe injury.

Freisthler then used an ATV to get himself to the residence for help. Freisthler was treated at the scene and was transported by Anna Rescue to Wilson Health. A Mobile Intensive Care Unit transported Freisthler from Wilson Health to Miami Valley Hospital. Freisthler was later pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital.

An autopsy is pending at the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation.
