Man indicted for alleged assault

SIDNEY — A Sidney man has been indicted in connection with his alleged assault on a police officer by the Shelby County grand jury. A Tennessee man remains incarcerated related to his carrying a concealed weapon charge.

In all, 30 people were indicted during the grand jury’s recent session on Aug. 27. They face arraignment on Thursday, Sept. 3, in Shelby County Common Pleas Court.

Leyber B. Velasquez, 38, of Sidney, has been charged with assault, a fourth-degree felony. On Aug. 16, he allegedly assaulted a Sidney Police officer with a blunt object striking his side and head.

Velasquez remains incarcerated at the Shelby County Jail on a $35,000 cash only bond.

Alexander Ali-El, 31, Antioch, Tennessee, is also jailed at the county jail on a $5,000 bond. He is being held on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony.

Ali-El was traveling south on Interstate 75 when he was stopped in Sidney for speeding. A handgun was allegedly discovered within reach and outstanding warrants from Georgia and Tennessee were later determined.

The indictment also specifies the gun be forfeited.

Another Sidney man is facing weapons charges based on information from online court records.

Neil Cromes, 28, is facing two counts of having a weapon under disability, both third-degree felonies. On Aug. 8, Cromes was allegedly discovered with two handguns. Based on three previous convictions, Cromes is banned from possessing firearms.

A specification on the indictment calls for the firearms to be forfeited.

Two Sidney people have been indicted on charges related to alleged counterfeit activity.

Paul E. Ludwig, 28, and Alexis Cecil, 20, were charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, both second-degree felonies. They are accused of creating and distributing false checks since August 2019.

In a related case, Emily Elliott, 20, of Huber Heights, was charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, a second-degree felony; tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

Elliott was allegedly involved with counterfeiting during the same time frame, but also attempted to conceal computer equipment supposedly used in the offense.

Other indictments included:

• Nicholas C. Overbey, 29, at large, burglary, second-degree felony.

• Layla Danielle Bingham, 25, at large, five counts of misuse of credit cards, all fifth-degree felonies.

• Wesley Robert Woods, 33, Conover, Ohio, domestic violence, a fifth-degree felony.

• Tommy Beaver, 45, Piqua, theft by deception, a fifth-degree felony.

• Raymond Andrew Christian Short, 21, Cincinnati, three counts of carrying a concealed weapon, all fourth-degree felonies. Specifications called for the weapons to be forfeited.

• Anthony Eugene Wooley, 28, at large, two counts of possession of drugs, both fifth-degree felonies.

• Jaykub V. Ellis, 22, Sidney, failure to appear, fourth-degree felony.

• Tyler L. McFadden, 32, Sidney, three counts of trafficking in drugs, all fifth-degree felonies.

• Jennifer L. Huston, 47, Sidney, two counts of a person selling, purchasing, distributing or possessing a dangerous drug, and two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, all fourth-degree felonies.

• Christine L. Hughes, 49, at large, a person selling, purchasing, distributing or possessing a dangerous drug, a fourth-degree felony.

• Aaron N. Spencer, 25, Sidney, two counts of trafficking in drugs, both fifth-degree felonies.

• Jonathan R. Owens, 26, at large, five counts trafficking in drugs, all fourth-degree felonies.

• Carolyn L. Maynard, 57, Sidney, two counts of trafficking in drugs, all fifth-degree felonies.

• David S. Spangler, 49, Sidney, three counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, all fourth-degree felonies; aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; and possession of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony.

• Richard Winemiller, 28, Sidney, possession of drugs and possession of criminal tools, both fifth-degree felonies.

• Ryan M Parrett, 31, Sidney, possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

• Justin Torez Brown, 27, Cincinnati, aggravated trafficking in drugs, a fourth-degree felony.

• Hailey Paige Elliott, 23, three counts aggravated trafficking in drugs, all fourth-degree felonies, three counts of trafficking in drugs, all fifth-degree felonies, and aggravated trafficking in drugs, a third-degree felony.

• Matthew C. Cooper, 22, Sidney, two counts trafficking in drugs, fifth-degree felonies, and two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, fourth-degree felonies.

• Lucas M. Fitzgerald, 30, Sidney, aggravated trafficking in drugs, and three counts trafficking in drugs, third, fourth and fifth-degree felonies.

• Shelly Lynn Roach, 56, Sidney, six counts of trafficking in drugs, all fourth-degree felonies.

• Bryan R. Sims, 52, Sidney, two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs and two counts trafficking in drugs, all fourth-degree felonies, and trafficking in drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

• Amanda Weiler, 32, Sidney, six counts of trafficking in drugs, all fifth-degree felonies.

• Ben Malcom Current, 41, Sidney, two counts aggravated trafficking in drugs, third-degree felonies and two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, fourth-degree felonies.
