SIDNEY – The voluntary manslaughter case against a Sidney man who is charged with stabbing his cousin to death was bound over to the Shelby County Court of Common Pleas Friday.

Appearing by video from the Shelby County Jail, Riley D. Barger, 20, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday morning in Sidney Municipal Court.

Judge Gary Carter reduced his bond to $50,000 cash or surety plus costs or 10% (surety $50,091). Barger was ordered to remain at least 500 feet away from 630 E. 4th Ave., Sidney, as a condition of his bond.

According to Sidney Police Capt. Jerry Tangeman, Brianna Wilson, 27, died Feb. 5 after being stabbed at her home at 630 E. 4th Ave., Sidney. Wilson and Barger were involved in a verbal argument over Wilson wanting Barger to move out of the residence, Tangeman said. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation in which Barger allegedly stabbed Wilson.

According to police reports, officers were dispatched to the residence earlier in the day on Feb. 5 over a civil action. There was no evidence of criminal conduct in which charges could or should have been issued, Sidney Police Chief Will Balling said. During that time, neither party expressed fear of the other nor did either party wish to leave the premise.

Barger was charged with voluntary manslaughter, a first degree felony.
