SIDNEY — All high school juniors and seniors who are residents of Shelby County or attend a Shelby County high school may participate in the Shelby County Right to Life Oratory Contest. The pro-life speech contest is remote this year, with video entries; and prize amounts have increased to $500 for first place, $250 for second and $100 for third.

The winner will also be asked to participate, virtually, in the state contest, in May, with a chance to advance to the National Contest. Students are asked to pre-register by Monday, March 8 at 11:59pm, for the Shelby County contest.

The deadline for video submissions is Monday, March 15, by 11:59 p.m. Video submission requirements and contest rules can be found at the oratory contest tab on the Shelby County Right to Life website: http://shelbycountyrtl.org/oratorycontest/oratorycontestmain.html.

Contact the program director at 937-658-3535 or [email protected] to register; for more information; or if a student needs assistance recording the speech. Contestants are to research, write, and present an original pro-life speech on abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, or embryonic stem cell research that is 5-7 minutes in length. Entries will not be judged on video quality, only on speech quality and content.
