SIDNEY – The Sidney Shelby County YMCA will hold its annual Community Partner Campaign Kickoff in a virtual format on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at noon.

Tom Clark, local educator, coach, mentor, and Y volunteer, will be the testimonial speaker at this year’s event, which will be held virtually over Zoom. The link for the event will be available on the Y’s website and Facebook page and will be open to the community.

“Tom is an incredible individual who has made a significant positive impact in our community over many years, especially with our youth,” said David O’Leary, Sidney-Shelby County YMCA CEO. “We are privileged to have him join us at our Campaign Kickoff to share his very inspirational personal journey through our Delay the Disease program.”

The 2021 Annual Campaign is led by Co-Chairs Chris North, executive director of the Shelby County Veterans Administration and Y Board member Dan McMahon, president of ProPlastics, LLC in Sidney.

“We are very grateful for the enthusiasm Chris and Dan bring to our campaign as leaders this year,” said O’Leary. “They are both highly committed to the mission of this organization, and have set an ambitious goal of $40,000 for our volunteers in this year’s public campaign.”

The total 2021 campaign goal, between staff, board, public and majors divisions, is $115,000, with the goal of raising funds for the over $275,000 the Y provides annually in financial assistance to members of the community.

One hundred percent of the funds raised by the campaign benefit individuals and families with assistance in child care, memberships, youth programming, swim lessons and transformational programs like Delay the Disease and LIVESTRONG at the Y.

“In past years, the kickoff has always brought staff and volunteers together as a team to hear about the life-changing things happening here at the Y and to give a voice to the individuals this campaign impacts,” said O’Leary. “Although we cannot gather in person this year due to Covid, we are excited about the opportunity to reach more individuals in the community via livestream and to share the stories that make our organization’s mission come alive.”
