SIDNEY — Shelby County Special Olympics has been busy during the pandemic with a continuation of work with the Shelby County Board of Developmental Disabilities to plan for the future. Thanks to a donation from the Sidney Fraternal Order of Eagles, SC Spacial Olympics can proceed with the planning of spring sports.

According to a press release, SC Special Olympics has more than 112 athletes who participate in track and field, softball and basketball. The spring schedule will look a little different for the athletes.

First, track and field day — usually scheduled for the last Saturday in April — will be postponed until a later date to be announced. Second, softball season is planned to resume in July. Third, construction on the Special Olympics Softball Diamond will start in April. The diamond will be located on the campus of the Shelby County Board of DD on Children’s Home Road.

Rules and regulations for the upcoming softball season will be slightly different as well. Because the health and safety of participants is the No. 1 concern, the organization will abide by any rules set by Special Olympics Ohio All athletes will be required to sign a waiver to participate in softball. If you are a person with disabilities and want to participate in any SC Special Olympic activities, contact Jessica Guillozet at 937-658-6825 or [email protected].

The organization appreciates the Sidney Fraternal Order of Eagles for their support and assistance at a time when donations are less than average. the organization also appreciates all the support shown by the community throughout the year.
