SIDNEY — The Area Agency on Aging will offer a 3.0 credit hour continuing education workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Friday, May 14, via Zoom.

The cost is $40 to earn CEUS or $20 to attend without CEUs. Advance registration is requested by May 7. More information and the registration form is available at https://info4seniors.org/news/educational-opportunities/ or by emailing [email protected].

Lisa Brown, community liaison and RN at Hospice of Dayton, will be the presenter for this program. In addition, Brown has a range of experience from pulmonary care & critical care to working with patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Much confusion surrounds the concepts of hospice and palliative care. Understanding end-of-life care helps those working in helping professions and others to better explain how and when these services can improve the lives and final days of individuals and their loved ones. The workshop aims to provide a thorough overview about hospice and palliative care, the importance and details of each, and how both can contribute toward helping people experience an end to their lives that is peaceful and comforting to themselves, their families and friends.

Workshop participants will learn how to gently and authoritatively explain the differences between palliative care and hospice care, identifying when the time is appropriate to introduce a conversation about these services, and how to address the difficult situations when medicines and treatments are no longer working.

The Ohio Board of Nursing accepts events approved for counselors and social workers for continuing nursing education.
