The banks of the Miami River have been filled with fishermen the last few days, and a large number of fish, mostly catfish, are being caught.

There will be an important meeting of the stockholders of the Sidney Electric Railway Co. in the offices of the company in the Thompson building tomorrow afternoon. The meeting is called to vote on the question of amending the articles of incorporation in order to authorize it to build an electric line from Piqua to Sidney and St. Marys and Wapakoneta, and to change the name of the company to the Piqua, Sidney and St. Marys Railway Co.

April 27, 1921

The matter of the “daylight saving plan” was completely ignored by city council when it was brought to the attention of members at their regular session last evening. The proposition was presented by Charles M. Wyman, of the retail merchants association, who reported that of the 1,174 ballots cast in the referendum taken by the association, 894 were cast in favor of the proposal.

Nine thousand fish from Lake Erie were placed in Lake Loramie Saturday afternoon by the state.

Babe Ruth was fined $25 dollars for speeding 27 miles per hour on Broadway in New York City.

75 years

April 27, 1946

Sidney Public Schools will be represented by 57 students at the annual district-state scholarship tests to be given at Miami University on Saturday, according to an announcement made today by Supt. C.C. Crawford. This will mark the first time since the beginning of the war that the tests have been held on the campus at Oxford. During the war these were given at home schools because of gasoline rationing.

50 years

April 27, 1971

Webster Geib, a city school representative on the city park and recreation commission, was named chairman of that body at a regular meeting Monday night. Geib succeeds Corliss (Corky) Davis as chairman. William A. Ross Jr. continues as secretary-treasurer. Other commission members are Robert Beanblossom and Ed Willman.

ANNA – Phillip M. Cornett, 27, instructor in commercial subjects and guidance counselor at Anna High School, has been named high school principal by the board of education.

It will be “An Evening in Paris” when the Lehman High School junior/senior prom is held Saturday night. Members of the senior class elect their classmates for king and queen. Senior queen candidates are: Mindy Anthony, Julia Francis, Glynda Mikolajewski, Melissa Monnier, Laura Nerdman, Angie Flinn, and Sarah Miller. Senior king candidates are: Dominic Bogart, Brian Campbell, Patrick Campbell, Matt Hartings, Heinrich Montana, Brad Ratermann, and Joe White.
