Riverside Drive fire ruled accidental, electrical

SIDNEY — The Tuesday afternoon fire on Riverside Drive has been ruled accidental and electrical in nature by the Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services Fire Investigation Unit.

According to a Sidney Fire press release, Sidney firefighters were dispatched on a report of a structure fire at 1755 Riverside Drive at 12:05 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming out of the eves and fire involvement on the rear of the structure.

The occupants on scene advised everyone had safely evacuated prior to the arrival of the fire department. Crews initiated a transitional fire attack from the outside and then advanced hose lines inside to complete extinguishment of the fire.

The fire caused damage to the structure and was contained to the exterior wall with extension to the attic and one bedroom.

Damage to the property, owned by Drew and Shavon Puckett, is estimated at $20,000 to the structure and $10,000 to the contents. The family was not displaced by the fire incident.

AES (formerly DP&L) was on scene to control the utilities. Mutual aid assistance was received from Anna, Van Buren, and Port Jefferson Fire Departments.

No occupants or fire personnel were injured during the event.
