SIDNEY —- The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA will use gifts given for the Community Foundation’s 2021 Match Day to continue and increase programs that strengthen the health of people overcoming certain diseases.
“Match Day gifts will help to continue LiveSTRONG at the YMCA program for cancer survivors. New this year, will be the ability to fully subsidize the Delay the Disease Program for Parkinson’s Patients. This means that these participants, like the LiveSTRONG participants, will not have to pay for this valuable program,” said David O’Leary, CEO. “Also new will be the addition of a memory care and balance program called Brain and Body which will launch in mid-2022.”
The addition of Brain and Body will help those fighting dementia, cognitive and memory issues, and balance issues, as well as older adults seeking to maintain their physical and cognitive health.
LiveSTRONG at the YMCA is a 12-week program for adults with cancer before, during and after treatment. The research-based program focuses on strength and conditioning, rather than the disease.
Delay the Disease offers basic and advanced sessions for those newly diagnosed, as well as those in progressed stages of Parkinson’s Disease. Working with Wilson Health Therapy Services, adaptable exercise programs optimize physical function and delay the progression of symptoms.
To support the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA on Match Day, gifts must be made payable to the Community Foundation of Shelby County with: Match/YMCA noted on the memo or in an accompanying note or form. Details and forms are available at the Community Foundation website at commfoun.com and at the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA, 300 E. Parkwood St., Sidney. Gifts must be received on or before Nov. 30 to be eligible for matching money. Credit card gifts may be made only on Nov. 30.
The Community Foundation of Shelby County holds its Match Day event annually on Giving Tuesday. Twenty-three local charities will ask supporters to make a gift to the Community Foundation that will be matched up to a total of $5,000 per charity.
Match Day participating organizations have a 501(c)(3) tax status and an organization fund within the Community Foundation of Shelby County with an asset balance exceeding the Foundation’s fund minimum. Gifts received will not be placed into an organization’s fund, but instead will be returned to the organization for its work in the community.
