BOTKINS — The Botkins Beautification Club will be sponsoring their second annual Exterior Illumination Contest, encouraging Botkins residents to go all out with their exterior Christmas decorations.

The Exterior Illuminations Contest kicked off on Nov. 28 at Veterans Memorial Park with a tree lighting conducted by Bob Fullenkamp, the winner of the 2020 Exterior Illumination Contest. The tree was decorated by Botkins Beautification Club Auxiliary Members Ron Stutsman and Brett Zimpfer, Council Member Lucas Greve, Joe and Deb Zimpfer, Village of Botkins workers, and other volunteers. Approximately 80 to 100 people attended the tree lighting and were entertained with Christmas carols sung by Kristin Vaubel’s music students.

The owners of FarmGrounds Coffee Shop, Heidi Koenig and Leah Koenig, offered free hot chocolate and opened their doors for visitors to see their new establishment. Fresh kettle corn was also made on-site and shared with those in attendance.

Residents are invited to tour Botkins and vote for their favorite light display by making a donation to the Botkins Beautification Club in the homeowner’s name bu Jan. 1, 2022. Every dollar counts as a vote and the winner will be announced on Jan. 2, 2022. The homeowner with the most votes/donations in their name will “split the pot” with the Botkins Beautification Club.

Donations/votes can be submitted via mail, Venmo, or in-person. To donate, contact Nancy Stutsman, 17300 Heiland Kies Road, P.O. Box 15, Botkins, or call 937-658-3869.
