SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA began 2022 with a number of staff changes and promotions.

Jamie Crippin, former membership and program director, will be assuming the role of operations director, responsible for leading the daily operations of the branch and its staff, and working alongside the CEO to grow membership and enhance programs and services that uphold the Y’s areas of focus of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

“We are excited to have Jamie assume additional leadership responsibilities in our organization,” said David O’Leary, YMCA CEO, in a press release. “She has done an excellent job in developing our membership and program departments and is an extremely hard worker and a great asset to our staff team.”

Crippin originally joined the Y in March of 2019 as the membership engagement director before advancing to the role of membership and program director in January of 2021. For over 20 years prior to joining the Y organization, Crippin owned and operated a multi-location dance, cheerleading and gymnastics facility.

“After selling my business,” Crippin said in the release, “I struggled finding something that allowed me to strengthen others and give back to the community, that was a big part of my business. The YMCA has been a second home to me. I love my job, the people I work with, and the people we serve. I’m excited to use my experiences to support the fantastic team we have as together we continue to develop and strengthen our community.”

In addition to Crippin’s new role, many other YMCA staff members will be taking on new roles in 2022. Current Kinetics Coordinator Rose Schutte will now be the program director for gymnastics and special events, current Youth and Sports Coordinator Bridget Stewart will now be the youth and sports program director, and current Wellness Coordinator Suann Kleinhans will now be the wellness director.

The newest staff addition to the YMCA team is Michelle Spalding, who was recently hired on as aquatics director. Michelle graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a degree in recreational sports management. Before moving to Ohio, she worked for the city of Richmond parks and recreation department as their community recreation coordinator managing community events and programs, summer camps, special events, aquatic events, outdoor movie series, and much more.

“I’m really proud of our staff team at the Y and how hard our leadership team works,” said O’Leary. “All of these individuals demonstrate excellence in the workplace and dedication to our mission and I look forward to what 2022 will bring for our organization and our community.”
