Someone broke into A.J. Yarber’s plumbing establishment at the corner of West Avenue and North Street last night and stole a lot of stock dies and plumbing tools. Entrance was apparently gained through the basement.

Dr. Deere, of the Deere and Deere Co., of Mason City, Illinois, made a record run from Danville, Ill. to Sidney in an Elco-30 auto manufactured by the Bimel Buggy Co. of this city. He covered the 278 miles in 12 hours, without trouble, using 12 gallons of gasoline.

Boy Scouts of Sidney and Shelby County will conduct their annual Boy Scout Civic Day next Saturday, Charles Whitcomb field executive, announced today. On that day, the boys will take over all public offices for a two hour period in the morning as a citizenship training project. Judge D.F. Mills will administer the oath of office.

F.A. McLean was elected president of the Sidney Rotary Club when members named officers for the year at the luncheon meeting yesterday. C.D. Beck was named vice president; Leo J. McFarland, secretary, with W.H.C. Goode and Frank Amann, the other directors. William Rhees was elected sergeant-at-arms.

WAPAKONETA – Neil Armstrong, Ohio’s latest space hero, said today the trouble which cut short his space flight only whetted his appetite for a second chance. Armstrong, who flew here for a hometown celebration, said the tumbling action he and fellow astronaut David Scott experienced aboard Gemini 8, “wasn’t any worse than some scares I received while driving an automobile.”

Recent weeks have seen the planting of three Mountain Ash trees in front of the Amos Memorial Public Library, according to Richard Willson, head librarian. Willson notes that these trees replace three maples that died during the past year. Two of the trees were purchased by the Gardens Beautiful Club of Sidney and the third tree was purchased by the trustees from library funds.

JACKSON CENTER – “Shooting Star” is the theme for the 1990 Jackson Center School High School prom set for the evening of April 27. Candidates for prom queen and king are: Christine Bunker, 18, Monica Layman, 17, Shelly Winkler, 17, Matthew Leininger, 18, Aaron Lenhart, 17, and Michael Mitchell, 18.

HOUSTON – “Evening in Paris” will be the theme of the Houston High School prom Saturday night at the school, the queen candidates are: Amy Webb, 18, Jennifer Hughes, 18, and Carrie Stangel. King candidates are: Damian Bumgarner, 18; Scott Hooks, 18, and Rob Parin, 17. The queen and king will be crowned Saturday night during prom activities.
