SIDNEY – The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA celebrated its 54th Annual Meeting of the Association, led by Board President John Grazioso and CEO David O’Leary.

The theme of the evening was “Together We Rise,” which highlighted the many ways that the Y overcame the struggles that the pandemic brought about the previous year.

O’Leary highlighted the hard work and commitment of staff and volunteers and the support of the Sidney Shelby County community, which made the many accomplishments and achievements at the Y in 2021 possible.

“We had over 200 children enrolled in our Y Child Development Center, and our Summer Day Camp attendance was at record levels,” said O’Leary. “We are grateful to have had the opportunity to serve so many unique individual children whom we are blessed to care for, develop and be a part of their lives.”

O’Leary also spoke about the great growth that the Y’s Youth Basketball leagues and classes, along with all Youth Sports Programs, experienced this past year.

“Our gymnastics staff restructured programming sessions this past fall and implemented a new Leap Learning lesson plan and coaching curriculum to enhance everything that they do,” said O’Leary.

O’Leary also discussed the significant growth in 2021 for Y membership, group exercise classes, and wellness center usage, as well as the newly added Hydromassage chair, a stress reducing and recovery tool which is add-on membership option and a free benefit for all Y staff members. The Y was also able to resume the in-person Water Safety Week, or Splash! program, which teaches children invaluable life-saving skills around water.

Grazioso spoke about the generosity of the Sidney Shelby County community in supporting the over $260,000 the Y was able to provide in financial assistance to families in need during 2021 through the annual Community Partners Campaign.

Volunteers of the year recognized were:

• Administration – Jeff Banks and Susan Shaffer

• Aquatics – Samantha Lockard

• Kinetics – Alayna Egbert

• Youth & Membership – Isabelle Rhim

• Child Development Center – Kaleb Dotson

• Wellness – Kim Jordan

The Y Board of Directors also welcomed incoming board member Logan Holland of Cargill.

Grazioso thanked outgoing Board Members, Duane Gaier and Dan McMahon.

“We are so grateful for Duane and Dan’s level of commitment to the Y’s mission,” said Grazioso. “They are both exemplary in their community involvement, and we truly appreciate their support and advocacy for the Y.”
