Honoring a Sidney hero

The Sidney High School Class of 1984 honored one of its classmates on Saturday, April 2, with a tree dedication ceremony at the Webster Geib Pavilion in Tawawa Park. Master Sgt. Jeffrey Rieck who was killed in action in Afghanistan on April 4, 2012. He was 45 at the time of his death. A member of the Ohio National Guard, Rieck was member of the 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. During the ceremony, the Shelby County Veterans Services Color Guard fired a 21-gun salute. A buckeye tree was planted at the park in Rieck’s memory.
