SIDNEY — The Sidney Education Association recently honored its Teacher of the Year and other individuals who support the students in the district.
The Teacher of the Year is TroyAnn Freytag. She is a middle school teacher, who creates a safe environment for her students, and supports all middle school staff regardless of their role in the school.
The Career Achievement award was presented to Angie Mentges. A retiring teacher, she created the Sidney Bowling Team in the high school, has had many teaching roles in SCS, leaving after 30-plus years
The Friends of Education award was presented to Denny Morrison and Angie Ross, Family and Community Engagement coordinators, for the their countless hours of support for SCS teachers and students; Tony Farmer, a volunteer at Longfellow; and Cathy Barnes: a retired SCS teacher that now volunteers at the middle school and helps with non English speaking students.
Doers Award was presented to three people for the support they give above and beyond the regular classroom expectations. The awards were presented to Mandy Gutman, Mike Keiser and Natalie Stewart.
