125 Years

May 14, 1897

Thomas J. Higgins, superintendent, and S.W. Hays, chief engineer of the Big Four railroad were in Sidney today. They were looking over the railroad property around the depot and contemplate making some improvements.

100 Years

May 14, 1922

Extensive improvements have been made at the Mires bathing beach located just northeast of the city. It is expected the resort will be ready for its formal opening on May 30. A large dancing pavilion and dining hall has been erected and the bathing pool has been expanded. The refreshment privilege has been taken over by I. Rosenthal.

It is questionable whether the dining room and gymnasium of the high school have ever been looked more lovely than they did last evening on the occasion of the farewell honor extended to the graduating class by members of the junior class. Collett Castineau, of the high school faculty, was master of ceremonies for the program, with Irwin Niswonger, junior class president extending the welcome. The response was given by Minor Dow, president of the senior class, with Dr. Hartman, superintendent giving the address.

75 Years

May 14, 1947

Jack Castle has returned home from New Haven, Conn., where he spent the past few months attending the Progressive School of Photography, on the Yale University campus.

50 Years

May 14, 1972

Wilson Memorial Hospital has been recognized with several Ohio hospitals for participation in the 1971-72 Ohio Medical Education Network.

The citation was accepted on behalf of the hospital by Con L. Drake, director of personnel and patient services, at the tenth anniversary commendation in Columbus.

Mrs. Willard Heintz Jr. was toastmistress for the St. Jacob Lutheran Church, Anna, Mother-Daughter banquet held Tuesday at the Anna High School.

A musical tribute to mothers and daughters was given by Mrs. James Miars, Jan, Juli, and Joni, who also led the group in singing.

25 Years

May 14, 1997

Dr. Richard Adams, a trustee of Edison Community College, was elected chairman of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges. He was voted to the office during the organization’s annual meeting in Columbus. Adams, a Shelby County native, had been vice chairman of the state group before being selected to the top spot. He has been a member of the Edison Community College Board of Trustees since 1991. Adams also has been a Miami County Commissioner since 1992.

Adams was the first superintendent of the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School, a position he held from 1974 until his retirement in 1990.
