SIDNEY — Last year, Shelby County United Way raised over $1.3 million, with 99% of all money raised remaining local. Almost 18,000 Shelby County residents directly benefited from United Way partner agencies in 2021. The number served is larger when individuals impacted by special project grants, POWER grants and Student United Way grants are included.

On Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, the Shelby County United Way held their kick-off event for the 2022 “United for Impact” campaign. One of the new aspects of this year’s campaign is the digital giving opportunity for the community. In addition to the large thermometer on the courtsquare to track campaign progress, there is now a digital progress wheel available online as well. Go to www.shelbycountyunitedway.org and click on 2022 Campaign Update.

The webpage allows the community to see the progress of the campaign in real time along with a scrolling list of donors, ways to donate and examples of the incredible impact donations make in the community. The ability to give online allows anyone in the community to donate to the campaign and watch their donation move the progress wheel forward in real time.

SCUW President and CEO Scott Barr said, “No dollar amount is too small. Just $1 per week can provide a new book each month to two children in Shelby County through the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library which helps promote literacy in our community. No dollar amount is too large of course!”

Inflation and the market have impacted everyone, including Shelby County United Way partner agencies. In order to continue the level of needed services in the community, SCUW is challenged to raise even more in the 2022 United for Impact campaign. To donate, go to www.shelbycountyunitedway.org and click on Campaign Updates and then DONATE or text SHELBY to 40403.

The Shelby County United Way is a local 501c3 non-profit organization that has earned the highest rating from Charity Navigator eight out of the past nine years. Monies raised in the annual campaign are invested locally under the leadership and direction of our local volunteer Board of Directors and Community Allocation Volunteers.

Through the First week of the campaign, the campaign total is $258,640.

Donors can make payroll contributions with participating employers or make a one time or reoccurring donation by visiting www.shelbycountyunitedway.org or text SHELBY to 40403. Checks can be made payable to Shelby County United Way and mailed to P.O. Box 751, Sidney.
