Building campaign nearing final stage

SIDNEY — The campaign to renovate and expand the Amos Memorial Public Library is nearing the point of decision to proceed with construction. Those who have yet to make their contribution to the library are asked to submit their gifts or pledges by the beginning of August.

“At our July meeting, the Board of Trustees reviewed the design developed by krM Architecture+,” according to campaign chair Cindy Helman, “and in August we will authorize the preparation of construction and bidding documents.”

“We still have some grants that are being processed, and we have some individuals who have expressed an interest but have not yet determined the amount of their gifts. We need those decisions to be made and submitted before August 1, so that at our mid-August meeting, the Trustees with full confidence can authorize work to begin for the future of the library,” Helman said.

To date, nearly $1.6 million has been raised from private donations with the library providing another $2.5 million.

Site work by Choice One Engineering is already underway. Bidding and construction documents will be prepared in September with public bidding of those contracts scheduled for November. Construction contracts will be awarded in December with groundbreaking tentatively scheduled for March of next year.

“We’ve had a great response from people who want to purchase a $100 commemorative paver, and we want to encourage them to get their requests in before Aug. 1, as well,” Heilman said. “Paver forms are available at any Shelby County Library location or online at shelbyco.lib.oh.us.”

In addition to the pavers, other recognition of gifts to the library include a glass wall that will list those who contribute a minimum of $1,000 and a permanent plaque that will include names of major donors in the amount of $10,000 and above. Naming opportunities are available for larger gifts.

Helman encourages everyone to make a contribution of any size. Checks of $100 or more may be made out to the Community Foundation of Shelby County with “library” on the memo line, sent to the Community Foundation of Shelby County, 100 S. Main Ave., Suite 202, Sidney, OH 45365-2771. Smaller gifts are accepted at any Shelby County Library location.

“More than 10,000 people visit the Amos Memorial Public Library every month, and this location allows the community locations throughout the county to operate and provide services along with programming,” Helman said. “Other groups and organizations have places of commemoration, but this is a place everyone from Sidney and Shelby County can be remembered or honored.”
