NEW BREMEN — The valedictorian and salutatorian for the New Bremen High School Class of 2016 has been announced.
The valedictorian is Thomas Zhang, son of Weiqun and Li Zhang. He will attend the University of Southern California and intends to major in computer engineering and computer science. Awards that he has earned include the Honda-OSU Math Medal and the National Merit Commended Scholar designation. He participated in the Full Throttle STEM Competition and earned first place there as part of the team augmented RC Cars. Zhang was a co-captain of the Scholastic Team that won the Scholastic Bowl League Championship for the first time in 20 years. Among his other high school activities, Zhang ran both track and cross country.
The salutatorian is Makenna Brackman, daughter of Alan and Kathy Brackman. She will attend the Ohio Northern University and intends to major in pharmacy. She is a four-year member of the track team and the basketball cheer squad. She has also participated on the swim team for three years and the cross country team for one. Throughout high school she has served as class vice president for four years. Brackman has been two-year member of the National Honor Society and a four-year member of the Spanish club.
New Bremen’s graduation ceremony is planned for Sunday, May 22, at 2:30 p.m. at the New Bremen High School gymnasium. The baccalaureate is planned for Sunday, May 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the James F. Dicke Auditorium.
