SIDNEY — Dorothy Love Retirement Community, 3003 W. Cisco Road, will offer a free class, “Understanding Your Insurance Benefits for Short-term Rehab,” July 26, at 6 p.m. in the facility’s Rehab Studios’ Courtyard Cafe.

In this educational program, registered nurse and admissions case manager Mary Moyer will explain how short-term rehabilitation is covered by Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, Medicare supplements and employer-based commercial insurance plans. She will answer attendees’ specific questions about their insurance and provide information to help participants make informed decisions for themselves or loved ones in the event of a planned or unplanned hospitalization requiring short-term rehab.

“No matter where you go following a planned or unplanned hospitalization, it is important to understand how your insurance works, not just the benefits,” Moyer said. “I have had many people say, ‘The hospital told me I have 20 days,’ or ‘My insurance told me I have 100 days.’ These may be the benefits, but what is not provided is how the benefits are accessed for use. Knowing the benefits is only part of the equation. Knowing how your benefits work and the criteria to utilize these benefits are very important when looking at care following hospitalization.”

Attendees will receive light refreshments and an informational packet with insurance basics and how to preregister for rehab. Tours and other information about Dorothy Love’s rehabilitation services will be available.
