Deadline passes for Nov. 3 election; certification set for Aug. 17

SIDNEY — The filing deadline has passed for potential candidates to be on the Nov. 3 ballot. The Shelby County Board of Elections will be meeting Monday, Aug. 17, at 7 a.m. to review and the certification of all petitions filed.

City, village councils

In the city of Sidney, three council-at-large seats are up for election. Five people have filed their petitions for the seats. Incumbents Mike Barhorst, 604 N. West St., Janet Born, 939 Chestnut St., and Rufus Sims, 921 E. Parkwood, along with Dock H. Foy, 2745 Kristy Way, and Joseph S. Ratermann, 1030 N. Miami Ave., have all filed petitions.

In the village of Anna, Mark S. Pulfer, 308 W. Main St., Anna, has filed his petition for mayor. Two council seats are up for election. Filing petitions were incumbent Kathleen A. Eshleman, 202 N. Linden St., Anna, and newcomers Joel M. Kranenburg, 303 Meadowview Lane, Anna, Laura Lentz-Fogt, 503 E. North St., Anna, and James M. Nolte, 205 Young St., Anna.

In the village of Botkins, incumbent Steven L. Woodruff, 420 E. State St., Botkins have filed his petition for re-election. There are two council seats up for election and both incumbents — Casey Dietz, 305 Spruce St., Botkins, and Joshua Meyer, 104 W. Walnut St. — are seeking re-election.

In Fort Loramie, two people have filed petitions for mayor for the village. Incumbent Phillip Eilerman, 51 Elm St., Fort Loramie, and newcomer Randal J. Ahlers, 350 Sioux St., Fort Loramie, will both vie for the office of mayor. Two incumbent council members — Adam Schmiesing, 78 S. Elm St., Fort Loramie, and Matt Hoying, 77 Eastview Drive, Fort Loramie, will be seeking re-election to the two seats on the ballot.

In Jackson Center, Mayor Scott W. Klopfenstein, 301 Oak St., Jackson Center, has filed his petition for re-election. There will be two council seats on the ballot. Two incumbents — Kenneth K. Gloyeske, 202 West St., Jackson Center, and Karen Woodruff, 107 Island Ave., Jackson Center — and one newcomer — James DeVine, 208 E. College St., Jackson Center – have all filed petitions.

In Kettlersville, Eric Kaminsky, 8915 State Route 274, Kettlersville, has filed his petition for mayor. He is the current mayor for the village. Two council seats are up for election. No one filed a petition for either seat.

In Lockington, Tracy Johnson, 470 Tow Path, Piqua, has filed a petition to be mayor of Lockington. Paul Johnson, 470 Tow Path, Piqua, has filed her petition for re-election as a member of council. Only one council seat is on the ballot.

In Port Jefferson, Stephen R. Butterfield, 8877 Johnston Slagle Road, Sidney, has filed his petition to be mayor of the village. Vicki Smith, 434 W. Main St., P.O. Box 87, Port Jefferson, has filed for re-election as a council member. There are two council seats on the ballot.

In Russia, there are two council seats on the ballot. Two incumbents — Greg Borchers, 135 S. Liberty St., Russia, and Cindy Goubeaux, 120 North St., Russia, have filed for re-election.

Township trustees, fiscal officers

In Clinton Township, Susan E. Sekas, 844 Foraker St., Sidney, is seeking election as the fiscal officer. Frank Mariano, 1620 Ash Place, Sidney, is seeking re-election as a trustee.

In Cynthian Township, Jennifer L. Frilling, 7647 Cardo Road, Sidney, is seeking re-election as fiscal officer. Keith a. Dapore, 3270 Kaiser Road, Fort Loramie, filed his petition for trustee.

In Dinsmore Township, Craig Ambos, 15111 Lock Two Road, Botkins, filed his petition to be fiscal officer. Incumbent Ted T. Zimpfer, 14567 Lochard Road, Anna, filed for re-election as a trustee. Incumbent Richard Meyer, 13390 Lock Two Road, Botkins, filed his petition for an unexpired term for trustee.

In Franklin Township, Debora Bodenmiller, 9111 County Road 25A, Sidney, has filed for re-election as fiscal officer. There is one trustee seat open and two people have filed petitions — incumbent Roger Schulze, 13523 Sharp Road, Sidney, and newcomer Michael Christman, 11199 Wenger Road, Anna.

In Green Township, Debra Middleton, 19860 Sidney Plattsville Road, Sidney, is seeking re-election as fiscal officer. There is one trustee seat open and two people have filed petitions — incumbent Keith Gump, 979 State Route 589, Conover, and newcomer Jason A. Worley, 3139 Tawawa Maplewood Road, Sidney.

In Jackson Township, Diane Frank, 21471 Wise Road, Jackson Center, has filed for re-election as fiscal officer. Larry Sprague, 22201 Linker Road, is seeking re-election as trustee.

In Loramie Township, Bonnie Paulus, 5376 Rangeline Road, Russia, is seeking re-election as fiscal officer. Incumbent Dale M. Goubeaux, 1077 Fessler-Buxton Road, Russia, has filed his petition for a trustee seat. Scott Phlipot, 2340 Russia-Houston Road, Russia, has filed his petition for re-election to an unexpired term for the trustee seat he currently holds.

In McLean Township, Lori Bornhorst, 32 E. Park St., Fort Loramie, is seeking re-election as fiscal officer. One trustee seat will be on the ballot and two people have filed petitions. They are incumbent William J. Meyer, 11902 Eilerman Road, Minster, and newcomer Craig A. Bergman, 4317 State Route 362, Fort Loramie.

In Orange Township, Eric Voress, 1801 Bulle Road, Sidney, has filed his petition for re-election as fiscal officer. Incumbent Kevin Martin, 16412 Sidney Plattsville Road, Sidney, is seeking re-election as trustee.

In Perry Township, Sally N. Keener, 6153 Jackson Road, Sidney, is seeking re-election as fiscal officer. Incumbent Matthew K. Barhorst, 19800 Pence Road, Maplewood, have filed for re-election for the trustee seat.

In Salem Township, Incumbent Denise Palmer has filed her petition for fiscal officer. Trustee Daniel A. Knoop, 10700 Pasco Montra Road, Sidney, is seeking re-election.

In Turtle Creek Township, Karen Pleiman, 8347 State Route 705, Sidney, is seeking re-election as fiscal officer. Michael P. Eilerman, 8757 Russell Road, Sidney, filed his petition for re-election as trustee.

In Van Buren Township, Joan M. Buehler, 8903 North St., Kettlersville, is seeking re-election as fiscal officer. Incumbent Alan Luthman, 16002 McCartyville Road, Anna, have filed his petition for trustee.

In Washington Township, Glenda J. Stangel, 9501 Stangel Road, Sidney, has filed her petition to be re-elected fiscal officer. There is one trustee seat open and two people have filed petitions — incumbent Douglas K. Stangel, 9501 Stangel Road, Sidney, and newcomer Mark Nishwitz, 8379 Taylor Road, Houston.

Boards of Education

Paul L. Heins, 439 E. Ruth St., Sidney, has filed his petition for re-election for an unexpired term for the Sidney City Schools Board of Education. There are three other seats up for election in November and four people have filed petitions for the seats — Incumbent Robert W. Smith, 1226 Turner Road, Sidney, and newcomers Mandi Croft, 213 S. Wagner St., Sidney, Richard L. Hix II, 768 E. Parkwood St., Sidney, and Kathryn Koester, 1231 N. Main St., Sidney.

There are two seats available on the Anna Local Schools Board of Education. Petitions were filed by Adam Reiss, 9695 State Route 119, Anna, and Michelle Brunson, 15150 Hardin Wapakoneta Road, Anna.

For Botkins Local School, two seats are available. Only one person filed a petition — incumbent Mark R. Goubeaux, 416 E. State St., Botkins.

Two seats are available on the Fairlawn Local Schools Board of Education. Three people have filed petitions — Incumbents Matthew Caldwell, 855 N. State Route 589, Conover, and Robert E. Gold, 22100 State Route 47, Maplewood, along with newcomer Michael Henman, 7540 Pasco Montra Road, Sidney.

Four people have filed petitions for the three seats available on the Fort Loramie Local Schools Board of Education. Filing petitions were incumbent Diane L. Pleiman, 2757 Schlater Road, Fort Loramie, and newcomers Tracy Drees, 141 Grandview Drive, Fort Loramie, Vernon F. Siegel Jr., 8727 Wright Puthoff Road, Sidney, and Jennifer Wilt, 20 Indian Trail, Fort Loramie.

Three people filed petitions for the two seats available on the Hardin-Houston Local Schools Board of Education. Incumbents Jason Foster, 3453 Millcreek Road, Sidney and Joel Knouff, 4637 State Route 47, Fort Loramie, along with Jason Shaffer, 8695 Fessler Buxton Road, Piqua, are seeking election to the BOE. Incumbent Stephen Mowery, 7101 Wright Moyer Road, Sidney, has filed his petition for an unexpired seat on the H-H BOE.

Three incumbents have filed petitions for the Jackson Center Local Schools Board of Education. They are Kristen S. Davis, 202 Hudson Drive, Jackson Center, Matthew S. Kohler, 204 N. Fork St., Jackson Center, and Brad Wren, 108 Waterford Court, Jackson Center.

For Russia Local Schools, there are two seats up for election. Three people have filed petitions to run for the seats — Incumbent Douglas Hoying, 3233 Simon Road, Russia, and newcomers Jaime Goubeaux, 414 S. Remy St., Russia, and Brian Pinchot, 11286 Marshall road, Versailles.

For the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center, Ryan E. Woolley, Randy Sailor and Eric Ditmer have all filed petitions for the governing board. Each is running for a different subdistrict of the ESC board.

Other counties

In Logan County’s Miami Township, Thomas G. Weiskittle has filed his petition to be fiscal officer for the township. There is one trustee seat open and no one filed a petition.

Also in Logan County, Diana Gamble and Don Pippin have both filed petitions to be fiscal officer for Pleasant Township. Only one will be elected to office. Stephen L. Sanders has filed his petition for trustee.

Jennifer Ganson-Bowman has filed her petition for mayor of the vllage of DeGraff. Chuck Bertscham has filed his petition for village council. Ron Pope has filed a petition for board of public affairs for the village of Degraff.

In Auglaize County, Dennis R. Kitzmiller has filed for re-election as mayor for the village of New Bremen. Thomas C. Herkenhoff and Nicole A. Clune have filed for Minster Village Council. Two people will be elected.

In New Bremen, Jeff Pape has filed for re-election as mayor. John Schwartz has filed for village council. Two people will be elected.

In New Knoxville, Keith Leffel has filed for re-election as mayor. Duane Stienecker and Michael Kaup have filed for unexpired terms on village council. Mark Howe and Andrew Roettger have also filed for village council. Two people will be elected.

In German Township, Vernon Paul has filed a petition for township trustee and Karen Balster have filed to be fiscal officer.

In Jackson Township, Carl B. Albers has filed to be a trustee and David R. Doenges has filed for the fiscal officer seat.

In Washington Township, Louis Klopfenstein has filed for township trustee, while Cheryl M. Bambauer has filed for fiscal officer.

David Shephard and David E. Myers have filed for the governing board of the Auglaize County Educational Service Center. Three seats are available on the board.

Katrina Nixon and Kurt Forsthoefel have filed petitions for the Minster School District Board of Education. Two people will be elected to office.

Kyle Schmiesing, Scott Bertke, Cory J. Suchland, Bruce Spragg and Dana Blanchard have all filed petitions for the New Bremen School District’s Board of Education. Two will be elected to the board.

Bill Katterheinrich and Michelle Newman have filed petitions for the New Knoxville School District Board of Education. Two people will be elected to the board.

Aug. 5 was the deadline for petitions of candidates in nonpartisan races to be filed with the Shelby County Road of Elections. Write in candidates must file declarations of intent by Aug 24.
