City reports 270 EMS, 79 fire calls in July

SIDNEY — In July, personnel of the Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services responded to 270 EMS calls and 79 fire calls for a total of 349 calls compared to 323 calls in July 2014.

Personnel conducted in-house ventilation training as well as swift-water rescue training that was held at the Sidney municipal pool, and two personnel attended a five-day class on trench rescue.

Fire investigations were conducted at 1011 Broadway Ave., Sidney, and 101 Main St., Russia, in July.

The annual Shelby County Fair was July 19-25. The Fire Prevention Division reported it inspected 20 buildings, over 107 electrical panels, 16 rides, 42 concessions, and 51 tents/vendors. Also, over 135 children and 21 adults toured the fire safety trailer on the grounds, which was manned by various county fire Departments, as well as Sidney department personnel.

The Fire Prevention Division performed 43 inspections with eight reinspections, handled one complaint, and handed out two carbon monoxide detectors and three smoke detectors.

Special inspections in addition to the Shelby County Fair included fireworks at Sidney Middle School for the Fourth of July celebration, Russell Road Church, Shelby County Courthouse and Wilson Health.
