ANNA — The village of Anna has a new auxiliary police officer, after the council gave their approval to hire her at their regular meeting Tuesday night.

Erica Barge will now be patrolling the streets of Anna when needed. She has worked for the Tremont City Police Department, German Township, and Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

She currently works at Miami County Children Services.

Police Chief Scott Evans said her background check came out clear, along with her reference checks. This will put the department up to six auxiliary officers.

Also at the meeting the council read for a third time and voted on adjustments to their health care ordinance which tightens up the language.

It was reported the resurfacing project of the cul-de-sacs, paving project, and exercising of the fire hydrants are all completed. Line painting throughout the village will be complete this weekend.

Fire Chief Tim Bender reported everything went smoothly with the tanker explosion that happened earlier in August. For such a scary event, it was handled very very well, he said.

Village Administrator Wayne York reported notices went out for the public hearing that will be taking place Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. Casey’s Convenience Store has proposed some rezoning.

The notices were mailed out to all 46 properties within 200 feet in all directions from the extremities of the property.
