Careflight called to truck crash

A dump truck, right, crashed into a panel van, left, at the intersection of Wones Road and Ohio 47 just north of Port Jefferson. The driver of the panel van was taken away by Careflight with serious injuries. The driver of the dump truck was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital with head injuries. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with the Port Jefferson Fire Department. The accident occurred at 9:06 a.m. Thursday, June 11. An estimated 100 gallons of diesel fuel leaked out. Absorbent sand and an absorbent boom were laid down in a nearby drainage ditch to stop the flow of fuel. The EPA was coming to make an assessment.
