YMCA to host election night party for kids

SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA is having an election party for kids ages 7 and up on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the newly renovated Youth Center.

This free event is open to the community, both members and potential members, and offers kids the opportunity to play on the new Y exergaming equipment, do some election-themed crafts, and even “vote” in a kids’ Presidential election. Dinner will also be provided to all attendees.

“This is a great opportunity for youth in the community to participate in the excitement of voting on election night and to have fun in a safe environment while parents enjoy an evening out,” said David O’Leary, Y operations director. “Parents can even use part of the time to go vote if they haven’t yet been able to that day.”

New games in the Youth Center, courtesy of a recent grant from Honda of America, include iDance, Video Exerbikes, the Three Kick, and the Heavy Ball-all of which challenge the user both mentally and physically. The youth center also features Pop-A-Shot, air hockey, the Y Climbing Wall, the Sport Wall, and the BEAM.

The Y Kids’ Election will also give the kids a chance to “Vote for Zoe,” a write-in candidate who represents the potential of all children, and the commitment the Y has to providing the youth of our community with the developmental tools they need from early education to career readiness so that every child has the opportunity to pursue their dreams, and perhaps one day even be President.

Anyone interested in becoming a Y member, who brings in a Kids Election Night flyer between Nov. 7-12 will have their joining fee waived upon enrollment.

In order to participate, parents must sign their child(ren) into the Youth Center upon arrival, sign a waiver, and sign them out upon pick up.
