Kiwanians ready chicken barbecue

SIDNEY — The Kiwanis Club of Sidney will have its annual Labor Day chicken barbecue, Monday, Sept. 7, at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.

Serving will be from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or until sold out. The chicken barbecue has been an annual Labor Day tradition for more than 65 years.

Tickets are $7 in advance, $8 the day of the event. Included in the purchase price are a half chicken, potato chips, applesauce and a roll and butter.

Tickets can be purchased from any club member, at Bunny’s Pharmacy, Dekkers Flowers, Ron & Nita’s, Sidney Tire and at the door.

Proceeds from event support the community service projects of the Sidney Kiwanis, some of which are college scholarships to local high school seniors, sponsorship for a high school sophomore to attend the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Conference, Cribs for Kids project, Key Club sponsorship at Sidney High School, bell ringing for the Salvation Army, Adopt-A-Highway, support of local food pantries, the Sidney Library Building Fund and the Teen of the Month/Year. The Sidney Kiwanis awarded more than $13,000 in scholarships this past year.
