December 22, 1891

The manager of the Little Lord Fauntleroy troupe last evening at the Monument opera house, is of the opinion that Sidney is a graveyard for theaters. He claimed that his company is composed of a highly educated membership, and each an artist in his line. He expected their ability to draw a paying house, and was sorely displeased with the great number of empty seats.

Carl Sexauer sold an ornamental pretzel to C.R. Benjamin to be sent as a Christmas present to a friend in the state of Maine.

100 Years

December 22, 1916

Things have been a bit complicated at the Loramie Banking Co. for the past several days. When the lock on the vault failed to operate Thursday morning an expert safe man from Cleveland was sent for. Arriving Friday morning, he was able to finally get the safe door open by that evening.

Several names have been suggested as possible replacements for Second Ward Councilman I.M. Apple, who has resigned to accept his post in the State Senate. The vacancy must be filled within 30 days. Among those names mentioned are: H.A. Morris, Robert Bertsch, and Kari Young.

75 Years

December 22, 1941

Officers elected by the congregation of St. John’s Lutheran Church Sunday include: Karl F. Young, elder; Robert Bender, Eugene Fogt, Floyd Jeffries, Ned Logan, deacons; Harry Harp, trustee; Arnold Henke, financial secretary; Harold Linker, benevolence secretary. Herman J. Schlagetter was named Sunday school superintendent.

50 Years

December 22, 1966

Dutch Dilworth topped all keglers with high single games of 222 and 234, leading to a 623 series to lead his Sidney Truck to a 6-2 victory over Klipstine Lumber in the Major League at Bel Mar Lanes. Jim Knoop pumped high games of 224 and 221, on his way to a 604 as he led Blatz Beer to a 6-2 triumph over Strohs Beer.

Rev. Ted Harrison, a former pastor at Flint, Mich., has taken over as pastor of the First Church of God at Campbell Street Road and Fairview Drive in Sidney. He succeeds Rev. William Livingston who recently moved to High Point, N.C.

25 Years

December 22, 1991

NEW YORK (AP) – Jane Pauley will team up with ABC’s Stone Phillips for a new primetime news series on NBC. The still-untitled series begins in March. Phillips has been a reporter for “20-20” since 1986. Pauley’s “Real Life With Jane Pauley” was axed by NBC because of low ratings.
