Sales tax renewal slated for November ballot

0

WAPAKONETA – The 0.05 percent permissive sales tax will be up for renewal in November in Auglaize County.

The 0.05 percent sales tax has been in place for going on twenty years, first being passed in 1996 and renewed in 2006. The renewal is for a period of 10 years on purchases made within the county.

All revenue generated from this sales tax will be used in the Auglaize County General Revenue Fund. The General Revenue Fund includes the funding for the sheriff’s office and the court system. Historically the 0.05 percent sales tax has generated approximately $2.5 million per year.

The Board of County Commissioners will be holding informational sessions during the next few months on the issue. Community members are encouraged to attend and bring forth any questions.

A link to the presentation used at past hearings regarding the sales tax renewal can be found at http://www2.auglaizecounty.org/. Contact the commissioners’ office at 419-739-6710 if you have any questions.
