NEW BREMEN — The Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association (MECCA) will conduct its Annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Miami and Erie Canal Heritage Center, the MECCA Office. The Center is located at 130 S. Washington St. (State Route 66, two blocks south of State Route 274) in New Bremen.

The MECCA Board will review MECCA activities in 2016 and present plans for project work and activities in 2017. Election of Board of Trustees and Officers will also be conducted.

A regular, scheduled bi-monthly MECCA Board meeting will immediately follow the membership meeting.

Lockkeepers Winter Canal Hike

This event will be held on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. Registration is anytime between 1-3 p.m. at The Lockkeepers House in New Bremen. Hot refreshments and restrooms at The Lockkeeper’s House between 1-3 p.m.

This 5K hike is the first event of the 2017 Cabin Fever Hike Series on the Miami and Erie Canal Towpath Trail.

Route choices include:

• Start in New Bremen at The Miami and Erie Canal Visitors’ Center, The Lockkeeper’s House at the intersection of SR 66 and SR 274. Take the Towpath Trail to Lock Two and on the return leg enjoy following the new paved loop trail through the Kuenning -Dicke Natural Park.

• Start in Minster and hike the Towpath Trail to The Lockkeepers House in New Bremen and then return to your starting point.
