Missy Dean, left, of Sidney, hugs Makira Webster, 15, of Kettering, daughter of Nicole and Eric Webster, after Webster won Dean a $1,000 during halftime of the Sidney vs Lehman boys basketball game Saturday, Jan. 21. Dean bought a Ruese Insurance raffle ticket and her number was called during the Sidney home game. To win the money the ticket holder had to make a layup, a foul shot, a 3 point shot and lastly a half court shot. Dean asked her daughter Carly Dean to shoot for her. Carly turned down the chance but her close friend Makira said yes. Makira made the first three shots with relative ease. Then Makira made the half court shot in dramatic fashion with a shot right on the buzzer. The stands erupted in cheers and Dean came out to give Makira a big hug. Makira used to play basketball for Sidney City Schools up until this year when she started playing for Fairmont. When asked if Makira would get a cut of the prize Dean said she would be taken care of.
