January 26, 1892

Another Sidney invention is now being used in the mechanical department of this office. It is a new device for folding newspapers, and is known as the “Sidney Folder.” It is the invention of A.T. Bascom. It is manufactured here, Mr. Bascom having associated with him in the business Samuel Lyons. It is the second invention of the designer and is nearer perfection than machines of much higher price.

100 Years

January 26, 1917

Asa H. Kite, of this city, has been appointed by the meteorological department of the government as an observer of storms in Shelby County. He is required to give place, time and movement of thunderstorms, precipitation, temperature, direction of wind, and other meteorological phenomena.

75 Years

January 26, 1942

R.C. Kah and E.C. Amos were re-elected to the board of directors of the First Federal Savings and Loan at the annual meeting of shareholders yesterday. Other directors are E.J. Griffis, Louis Kay, D.F. Mills, Frank Amann, and Urban Doorley. In the re-organization, Griffis was elected president; Louis Kay and Amos, vice presidents; Amann, secretary and treasurer; and Doorley, attorney.

Joseph B. Cook and Harry K. Hess were re-elected directors of the Peoples Federal Savings and Loan at the annual meeting yesterday. Other board members are H.A. Amos, P.B. Kemper, H.M. Faulkner, William Kingseed, C.W. Nessler. In the re-organization, Kingseed was elected president; Nessler and Amos, vice presidents; Kemper, secretary; Hess, attorney.

50 Years

January 26, 1967

Starting today Rebecca Crimm, known to Cleveland television audiences as Jenny Crim, will take over as commentator for a mid-afternoon news program.

The station is WJW-TV, Channel 8, in Cleveland. Miss Crimm, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Crimm of Sidney, is a Sidney Miami School and Michigan State University graduate.

CINCINNATI – Robert L. Howsam, a victim of circumstance in St. Louis where he was never able to escape the shadow of Bing Devine, today started the new task of attempting to rebuild the Cincinnati Reds back into a National League contender.

Howsam Sunday was named the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds, succeeding Bill DeWitt, the former owner of the team.

25 Years

January 26, 1992

FORT LORAMIE – Head girls basketball coach Jane Poeppelman, in her 20th season at Fort Loramie High School, reached a milestone Tuesday night in her team’s 52-31 victory over New Bremen.

The victory marked the 300th of Ms. Poeppelman’s career as her team upped its record for this season to 10-2.
