Solar for jail, Fair Haven on hold

SIDNEY — A tentative plan to install solar fields for energy production at the Shelby County Jail and Fair Haven Shelby County Home has been set aside for the time being.

The County Commissioners Association of Ohio had asked counties if they were interested in exploring possibilities for the use of solar energy. Shelby County commissioners were.

“We had two facilities where we have ground where fields could be built,” said Commissioner Tony Bornhorst. But after some initial investigation, consultants recommended holding off both of them.

“They didn’t feel the jail had the proper space. At Fair Haven, we’ll re-evaluate once future renovations are complete,” said Commissioner Julie Ehemann.
