Mayor, council to receive raises

SIDNEY — The Sidney Compensation Commission decided to increase the mayor and Sidney City Council members’ salaries at the Feb. 15, meeting.

After a detailed discussion in an executive session, the commission determined to raise the mayor’s salary to $5,250, up from $5,000, and council members’ salaries to $4,200, up from $4,000, for the next two years, starting on Dec. 1, 2017. Commission members “expressed their appreciation” for the mayor and council members’ “hard work, efforts and personal time spent for the benefit of the residents.”

According to the city charter, the compensation commission must meet every odd numbered year, prior to March 1, to determine the salaries for the mayor and council.

Council may reject the commission’s salary recommendation by passing a resolution within 30 days of the Feb. 15, meeting. If no resolution of rejection is passed, salary amounts would be effective Dec. 1, 2017. At this point, a resolution has not been scheduled for either the Feb. 27 or March 13 regular council meeting.
